A Letter to Violet and Beauty and the Beast Birthday Party

Dear Violet,

This past year I have so enjoyed watching you grow from a toddler and transform into a kid. And I love the kid you are becoming.

In your four years of life, the consistent feedback I get from other adults is your compassion. Parents of your classmates have sought me out to tell me kind things you have done for your friends, especially when they are sad.

If I have one wish for you my love, it’s that you never lose this. Nothing makes me more proud or will ever make me more proud than seeing you be kind to others. The world may make you think that intelligence, success and getting ahead is of the utmost importance. But the world gets it wrong. None of it matters if you don’t have a giving heart.

Also, I knew you were fun from the time you were a baby. This is still one of my favorite things about you. You loved to be out and about, you love to laugh and you are always trying to make even average days into a bit of a party. Hold onto this. Your sense of humor and zest for life will make the good times grander and the bad times more bearable.

I couldn’t dream up a daughter more lovely than you.

Happy Birthday, my love.

Love,

Mom
